I am attorney Chad Schaff, and I help clients throughout Southwest Washington and the Portland Metro Area file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy. What Is Chapter 13 Bankruptcy?
Chapter 13 bankruptcy is also known as payback bankruptcy, because you pay back the majority of your debts in a three to five year plan. As long as you are diligent with your payments, most of your debt that is remaining at the end of the period will be discharged.
What About My Credit Score?
Although bankruptcy provides debt relief, it does not offer an instant solution to all of your monetary problems. When you file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you will be expected to maintain your payment plan through the agreed time period. Even after you finish your plan, your credit history will stay with you for a bit longer. It might be difficult to get a loan right away, but with work, it is possible to rebuild your credit score.
